140th Canton Fair: What’s Actually New for Buyers?

140th Canton Fair What’s Actually New for Buyers.png

The Canton Fair is getting bigger every year. But for buyers, bigger does not always mean easier.

The 140th Canton Fair, taking place in Guangzhou from October 15 to November 4, 2026, marks the fair’s 70th anniversary. With more than 32,000 exhibiting companies, 1.55 million square meters of exhibition space, and 54 exhibition sections across three phases, there will be no shortage of suppliers, products, and ideas to explore.

But from a sourcing agent’s perspective, the more interesting question is:

What is actually changing at the 140th Canton Fair — and what should buyers pay attention to?

1. More “New” Products, but Also More Technology Behind Them

One of the clearest signals from the 140th Canton Fair is the increasing focus on innovation.

New products are expected to account for 23.2% of exhibits, while green products will account for 26% — both record highs. At the same time, around 64% of exhibitors are applying technologies such as industrial internet and artificial intelligence in their operations.

For buyers, this means the conversation is moving beyond:

“What product do you have?”

and increasingly toward:

“What has changed in the product, manufacturing process, materials, or technology?”

This matters when sourcing because two suppliers may appear to offer the same category of product, while their actual capabilities can be very different.

A professional China sourcing agent can help buyers look beyond the catalogue and compare:

1. Manufacturing capabilities

2. Product development experience

3. Materials and components

4. Customization capabilities

5. Quality control systems

6. Certifications and compliance

7. Production capacity

8. Previous export experience

The product may be similar. The supplier behind it may not be.

2. AI Is Becoming Part of the Sourcing Journey

AI is not only appearing in the products being exhibited. It is also becoming part of the Canton Fair itself.

For the first time, the 140th Canton Fair will introduce 22 smart application scenarios and 16 AI applications, including full-venue booth-level navigation and AR-based booth information. Buyers will also be able to use AI-powered tools to search for suppliers and products, organize itineraries, and summarize discussions.

That sounds convenient — and it is.

But there is an important distinction:

Finding a supplier is becoming easier. Evaluating a supplier is still a human job.

An AI tool can help you find 20 factories selling a similar product.

It cannot replace the need to ask:

1. Is this company actually a manufacturer?

2. Can they handle my required MOQ?

3. Have they exported to my market before?

4. Can they meet my packaging requirements?

5. What happens if bulk production differs from the approved sample?

6. Can their production capacity support future orders?

7. Who will actually be responsible for quality control?

This is where professional supplier verification and sourcing support become particularly valuable.

3. The Fair Is Becoming More Service-Oriented

Another major change is happening outside the products themselves.

The 140th Canton Fair is upgrading its Trade Services Zone, with coverage across 10 categories of producer services, including logistics and warehousing, inspection and testing, R&D and design, digital transformation, business consulting, and overseas services.

This reflects a broader change in international sourcing.

Buyers are no longer simply looking for a supplier who can manufacture a product.

They increasingly need a supply chain that can support the entire process:

Sourcing → Verification → Negotiation → Production → Inspection → Packaging → Consolidation → Shipping

In other words, the supplier is only one part of the sourcing equation.

4. Product + Service Is Becoming a Bigger Part of Manufacturing

According to official figures, 36.5% of participating companies have shifted toward a “product + service” model.

This is something buyers should pay attention to.

A factory that simply produces a standard item may be suitable for one project.    But for buyers developing a long-term business, additional capabilities can become just as important as the product itself.

For example:

1. Can the supplier help develop a customized product?

2. Can they support packaging design?

3. Can they provide samples and revisions?

4. Can they handle different order quantities?

5. Can they coordinate quality inspections?

6. Can they support product compliance?

7. Can they work with your logistics requirements?

The more complex the sourcing project becomes, the more important these questions are.

5. More Opportunities — but Also More Suppliers to Filter

The 140th Canton Fair will feature more than 32,000 exhibiting companies, including over 11,000 high-quality enterprises such as specialized and innovative companies and industry champions.

For buyers, this is both an opportunity and a challenge.

More suppliers means more choices.

But more choices also mean more time spent comparing:

Quotation vs. quotation.
Sample vs. sample.
Factory vs. factory.
MOQ vs. MOQ.

And the lowest quotation does not necessarily mean the lowest total sourcing cost.

A cheaper supplier may have:

1. Higher defect rates

2. Less consistent production

3. Longer lead times

4. Higher packaging costs

5. More difficult communication

6. Less flexibility with customization

7. Limited export experience

The real question is not:

“Who gives me the lowest price?”

It is:

“Who gives me the right balance of price, quality, reliability, and long-term support?”

6. For Sourcing Agents, the Work Starts Before the Fair

This is perhaps the biggest difference between simply attending the Canton Fair and using the Fair as part of a structured sourcing process.

Walking through the exhibition halls and collecting business cards is easy. Building a reliable supplier shortlist is much harder.

Before visiting the Fair, buyers can already define:

1. What are you sourcing?

2. What quantity do you need?

3. What target price are you working with?

4. What certifications are required?

5. What level of customization do you need?

6. Which markets will the products be sold in?

With those requirements defined, a sourcing agent can focus on identifying suppliers that actually match the project instead of simply collecting as many contacts as possible.

That difference can save days of follow-up after the Fair.

7. What Should Buyers Actually Look for at the 140th Canton Fair?

If you are attending this autumn, don't just look for the newest product.

Look for the capability behind the product.

Production

  • Where is the factory located?
  • What is the monthly production capacity?
  • What are the standard and customized MOQs?

Quality

  • What quality control procedures are used?
  • Can third-party inspection be arranged?
  • How is bulk production checked against the approved sample?

Customization

  • Can the supplier modify materials, specifications, packaging, or branding?
  • What is the development timeline?

Compliance

  • Which certifications and testing reports are available?
  • Can the supplier meet the requirements of your destination market?

Supply Chain

  • Can multiple products be sourced from different factories?
  • Can orders be consolidated?
  • How will packaging, inspection, and shipment be coordinated?

These questions often reveal much more than a supplier catalogue.

The 140th Canton Fair Is More Than a Trade Show

The 140th Canton Fair shows a broader shift in China's export manufacturing landscape.

There are more innovative products.

More intelligent manufacturing.

More green products.

More digital tools.

And more services surrounding international trade.

For buyers, that creates more possibilities — but it also makes supplier selection more important.

Because when thousands of suppliers are presenting products at the same time, the challenge is no longer simply finding a supplier.

It is finding the right supplier for your business.

And that is where a sourcing partner can make the difference — by helping buyers verify suppliers, compare options, negotiate more effectively, coordinate quality control, and turn a busy exhibition visit into a sourcing strategy that continues after the Fair.
